Harp, Flute, Violin and Viola: ‘ Images’: A Composer’s Journal
Photograph: Score of “Images’ Monday, February 21 A message from Mark Gould today: Hello Dear Laurie! I hope all is going well with Realms of Light. Composition comes slowly at the moment, but have been sketching parts of a String Quartet, which surprises me as being neither tonal nor atonal… The Piano Trio eludes me, but I think I may have the beginnings of a row that will work how I want. It occurred to me that I have not heard or seen your music… I intend to correct that omission in March, and would like to know where I can get scores from. And… whilst we are on the topic of your music, I thought it would be good for my inspiration to write some ‘variations’ on one of the rows from one of your works… (Read the full post about ‘Harp, Flute, Violin and Viola: ‘ Images’: A Composer’s Journal’…)

Tapestries Make For Classic Wall Decor

July 16th, 2008 | Category: Art

Tapestries are an old form of art, which is said to have been used ever since the Hellenistic period. As a textile art, the tapestry is created by weaving beautiful yarns, chenilles and various threads on a loom. Originally they were woven by hand but now may be reproduced using machines, which dramatically cuts down on the production time.

The art of making Tapestries reached a new level in Europe, with kings and noblemen commissioning artisans to make this textile art for them. Famous Tapestry weavings commissioned by noblemen and royalty include “The Hunt of the Unicorn”, “Lady and the Unicorn” and the Bayeux Tapestry. Today, these world-renowned classics are available through well-made replicas. (Read the full post about ‘Tapestries Make For Classic Wall Decor’…)

Art scholarships run the gamut from drawing to painting to photography to design and even include art of the culinary, musical and literary variety. Body Art Painting: Tattoos no longer taboo

July 11th, 2008 | Category: Art

It was not too long ago that tattoos were considered taboo and were frowned upon by the majority of society. Such entities were only found on bikers, ex-convicts, and miscreants of all forms. However, today body art painting is considered a valid art form and is steadily gaining popularity. The artists have training much like the artists who create on canvas or with clay; the only difference is the medium. Some tattoo artists can recreate masterpieces and portraits on the skin of their clients that could rival Picasso or Da Vinci.

Body Art Painting

Unlike tattoos, body art is temporary and painted onto the skin. It can last for a few hours or up to a few weeks. (Read the full post about ‘Body Art Painting: Tattoos no longer taboo’…)

Write, Get Published, and Promote

July 10th, 2008 | Category: Art

The title of this article is the reality of writers culled down to five words. You want to see your article available online or in print or hold a copy of your book in your hands. The next desired reality is to see a response to all the energy, time, creativity, and passion you put into what you’ve written.

As a new or aspiring writer, you can feel delightfully excited about writing or feel stalled about how to start. Once you get going, fingers fly as thoughts and ideas flow through you. Maybe you know the technical side of writing that involves punctuation, grammar, sentence structure, formatting (including dialogue in a novel), plot or theme development … and maybe you don’t. Austin Museum of Art

June 29th, 2008 | Category: Art

This is truly a museum for the casual and creative Austinite. With two locations and loads of interesting exhibits and programs, AMOA is a great cultural destination for students, adults, and even parents and caregivers of young children.

The downtown location is a sleek and modern space, while the Laguna Gloria campus, AMOA’s original home, is housed within a 1916 Italiante villa. The primary home of the AMOA Art School, Laguna Gloria is located on property once owned by Stephen F. Austin, and was the residence of the legendary Clara Driscoll. Overlooking Lake Austin, and with 12 acres of beautiful grounds and gardens, Laguna Gloria is worth a visit purely on historical merit. (Read the full post about ‘Austin Museum of Art’…)

The Everlasting Beauty of Sculptures

June 27th, 2008 | Category: Art

The beauty and charm of sculptures has enchanted mankind since times immemorial. They can be called as the most beautiful manifestation of creativity and artistic ability. Kings and queens in ancient times used to regularly patronize sculptors of high talent.

Sculptors have tremendous relevance to the present times as well. If you have a penchant for classy and artistic items, then you would surely want to use sculptors to decorate your home and garden. Another good thing about sculptors is that they not only look good in homes and casual environments, but they can even be used for landscaping of corporate buildings.

In earlier times, sculptors used to be made from chiseled rock and clay. (Read the full post about ‘The Everlasting Beauty of Sculptures’…)

How Do I Get Published?

June 26th, 2008 | Category: Art

This is a question my clients who are new and aspiring writers always ask me.

We write for different reasons: Enjoyment, challenge, and to share information or our creative effort. If you’re going to share what you’ve written, you’ll need a means or venue to get published. But you knew that, of course.

But do you know enough about how to do this?

If you’re an article writer, you can find venues that publish what you write (such as this one). One of the best options to find such a venue or venues is in “Writer’s Market,” a couple-inch thick book that strives to provide users with as much current information about markets as possible; and you can find lots of good e-zines for writers you can subscribe to online at no cost that offer other markets.
